The touring exhibition of the prestigious 2015 Queensland Regional Art Awards, Cream of the Crop, will land at the Roma on Bungil Gallery from Friday 24th June to 31st July
Curated by Jan Manton (commercial gallerist, Jan Manton Art), this impressive exhibition features the diverse art work of 30 of the finest emerging and established artists living and working in regional and remote Queensland.
In 2015, artists were asked to reflect and respond to local issues in the Queensland region, as opposed to addressing a specific exhibition theme.
Gallery Chairperson of the Roma on Bungil Gallery, Sandy Macdonald, said she was thrilled that the exhibition was able to come to the Maranoa].
“This touring exhibition shows regional and remote artists in their best light”, they said. “It provides a wonderful opportunity for them to show their work to a wider audience”.
“It is also a great opportunity for our community to see the work of artists from other communities who choose to live and work in regional Queensland”.
The Queensland Regional Art Awards is a hallmark event produced by Flying Arts, an organisation that for 45 years has been providing visual arts development services throughout Queensland.
Executive Officer of Flying Arts, Kerryanne Farrer, said she was very pleased that the touring exhibition was taking place in Roma.
“The Awards encourage participation and recognise excellence”, she said. “The annual Queensland tour is a great opportunity for artists outside the mainstream to reach out to a wider audience”.
